1988, September: Women Out Of Doors (WOODS) Began

Based on the following description of WOODS found in the Pink Triangle Community Calendar (March 1992, p.2), we place the beginning of WOODS around September 1988. “Women Out Of Doors in Kitchener Waterloo is an outdoor, sometimes indoor, social recreational group for women of all ages and background. Currently WOODS has about forty members and in total over one-hundred women have been members in our 3-1/2 year existence. We have a bi-monthly calendar of events that range from biking to hiking, camping, canoeing, birding, fishing, games rights [nights?], bowling, billiards, movie nights, skiing, group outings to restaurants, etc. We have even gone rock climbing! Most of our events are held on weekends although some fall during the week. All our events are listed in the Pink Triangle Community Calendar. 1997, September (or earlier) - Renamed as Women Out Opening Doors Socially

The earliest occurrence of the new name of WOODS, namely, Women Out Opening Doors Socially is found in the September 1997 of Outlook Magazine. In its previous, issue (July/August) the group was still listed under its initial name.
